METROPOLIS

1. ROCKAWAY TACOS
2. THE MOSAIC WHALE
3. BOARDWALK

A WANDERLUST SIDE NOTE:
Rockaway Beach is a truly unique experience. It is, first of all, very strange to me that you can access it for only $2.25 by subway. It feels somewhat surreal, like that children's television show where a bunch of terrible children are launched into space on a rogue school bus.

The beach itself is equally bizarre. Coming from the East Coast, I am used to the uber-exclusive, private Newport beaches where you have to get some kind of permit to kick off your flip-flops. At  Rockaway, the subway lets you off in the middle of a developing, primarily Puerto Rican neighborhood with minimal beachfront charm.

The essential stop (really only stop, at least by my research) is Rockaway Tacos-- a little hole-in-da-wall place with famous fish tacos, pineapple mint juice, and a cute surf shack atmosphere. I actually found my meal to be somewhat unremarkable, but seeing as how I am the girl with no palette, who equally enjoys her morning Special K and a fancy bisque, I am not even going to try to tackle that one.
